Locked Out, But Locked In

With NBA owners and the Players Association unable to agree on a new contract, the 2011 NBA lockout began on July 1. As the fourth lockout in league history, it nearly forced the entire 2011 – 12 season to be canceled. As it was, the 161-day work stoppage ended on December 8, 2011. The lockout delayed the start of the regular season from November 1 to Christmas Day, and reduced the regular season from eighty-two to sixty-six games.

During the lockout, Jeremy could not step inside the Warriors’ gleaming training facility in downtown Oakland. Nor was he allowed any contact with the coaches, trainers, or staff. Jeremy had to motivate himself to stay in shape. That wasn’t a problem, because he was locked in on improving his physical assets and his game. He worked harder than ever to be ready when the NBA started up again.

His schedule included:

• 10 – 11 a.m.: agility training

• 11 – noon: weight training

• 1 – 2 p.m.: shooting work with a private coach

• 2 – 4 p.m.: individual work1
